Description:
Selective Nerve Root Blocks involve the injection of anti-inflammatory and numbing medication around a specific nerve root (also called the spinal nerve) at the level of compression or irritation as it exists the spinal canal. Selective Nerve Root Blocks not only provide pain relief but also help guide further care. Based on the results of the Selective Nerve Root Block, a referral to the neurosurgeon might be recommended.
Conditions Treated:
Selective Nerve Root Blocks are commonly recommended for patients with the following conditions:
- Herniated or bulging discs
- Spinal canal stenosis
- Degenerative disc disease
- Radiculopathy (nerve irritation)
- Sciatica
- Leg and arm pain
What to Expect:
Procedure length: <5min. Patients start experiencing significant pain relief almost immediately. The expected duration of pain relief is several weeks. Please note that if IV sedation is requested, the patient would need to bring a driver with them on the day of the procedure.
